Overview

No other sport rivals the complexity of American football. There's a gap in knowledge that exists among players, coaches, and fans — and American Football IQ was built to close it.

The Play Fast Elite Bundle is the complete system: all four volumes, 216 cards, covering the game from every angle. The coverage shell behind the play (Volume 1), the trench battle in front of it (Volume 2), the quarterback decisions that tie it together (Volume 3), and the receiver play that finishes it (Volume 4).

Developed by highly qualified coaches, including a Division I quarterback and college coach who has trained All-Conference players and pro prospects. Each deck stands alone — together they give a player, a position group, or a whole program one shared language for the game.

What's Included

Four decks. 216 professionally designed flashcards — 54 per volume:

  • Volume 1 — Terms & Coverages: the essential vocabulary of the game plus every major coverage, Cover 0 through Cover 8, including Robber, Tampa, Buzz, Cloud, and Match
  • Volume 2 — Offensive & Defensive Line: blocking schemes, protection calls, defensive fronts, gap responsibility, leverage, stunts, and communication
  • Volume 3 — Quarterback Mastery: pre-snap declarations, protection calls, read frameworks (Apex Triangle, Deep Triangle, Spoke of the Safety, RAM, AFRO), progressions, formations, motion, and footwork
  • Volume 4 — Receiver IQ: release mechanics, break mechanics, route leverages, the WR checklists, motion cues, and blocking mechanics

Every card pairs a concise explanation with a visual diagram.

What You'll Master

By the end of all four volumes, you'll process the game from every angle — the coverage shell behind the play, the trench battle in front of it, the quarterback's decision, and the route that beats it

You'll learn how to:

  • Identify coverage families and structure pre-snap — Cover 0 through Cover 8

  • Read defensive fronts, gap responsibility, and the leverage that decides the trench

  • Declare the Mike, check the protection, and work a full progression on time

  • Win the release, snap off the break, and attack leverage as a receiver

  • Speak one football language across your position group, team, or coaching staff

The game moves too fast to think slow.

Football flashcards

Physical quality is good, thick cards that will last a while. You’re paying for the information. If you know very little about football this is a great product to help you learn terminology and basic football schemes. The language and terms are very entry level and as you’ll learn playing football every system has slightly different language. This will give you a good base line knowledge to prepare to learn the game of football. The price is high for the information you receive. Most of what you’ll learn you can find online for free but if you are a more hands on learner this is a good option

Excellent Study Tool for Football Minds of All Levels

The flashcards arrived neatly organized in a durable, compact box, immediately giving off the impression of a premium, well-crafted educational tool rather than a cheap novelty. Physically, the cards are printed on a heavy-duty, glossy cardstock that feels robust enough to withstand constant handling during intense study sessions or casual sideline review. The diagrams and text are remarkably crisp, matching the listing images perfectly with bright, high-contrast colors that make reading complex defensive coverages or offensive route trees seamless and easy on the eyes.In practice, they perform exceptionally well as a quick-reference and active-recall study guide, breaking down intricate football terminology and strategy into highly digestible pieces that work beautifully for players, coaches, or even dedicated fans looking to sharpen their football IQ. On the plus side, the sheer depth of terminology and clear visual formatting makes learning complex concepts incredibly straightforward, though a slight limitation is that complete beginners might initially find the rapid transition into advanced play diagrams a bit steep without a basic understanding of the sport. Overall, it is a highly effective, tangible training asset that delivers exactly what it promises for anyone looking to truly master the Xs and Os of the game.

Outstanding football training flashcards but a little pricey

These football flash cards are exceptional for training and familiarizing regarding the nuances of football. I'm someone who recently began playing flag football, after many years of following the sport of football.Where the cards help me is that they bridge the gap on the terminology in incremental ways. Incorporating the terminology and learning it fully is not something that you can do on the fly. The creativity and content of these cards helps me understand everything fully so that I can implement it on game day.Keep in mind that the cards aren't some sort of gameplay or game, but more a way of learning nuanced football strategic and terminology concepts. The cards are made of durable cardstock and coated, so they will last for quite some time. I also like the sequential aspect, so that I can put them in order and study at my leisure. I've already done so on an airplane trip.Very pricey at $49, but if it was a bit less, I would definitely purchase other versions. Recommend based on the quality.

These Cards Explained Coverages Better Than I Ever Could

Picked these up for my sons and me so we could actually understand what we’re seeing, both in real games and when we’re playing college football on the PS5, and they’ve been way more helpful than I expected. The set covers 54 core football terms and coverages, and the explanations are written the way coaches actually talk. It’s been great for building real football IQ instead of just guessing what the announcers mean. Each card breaks things down with clear definitions and examples that make the concepts click fast. My kids like matching the terms to situations they see on screen, and I’ve caught myself learning just as much as they are. They’re sturdy, easy to toss in a bag, and the compact size makes them perfect for reviewing in the car or between games. You can tell these were designed by someone who’s actually coached — the info is practical, not fluff. If you’re a parent, a player, or just someone who wants to understand the game on a deeper level, these are absolutely worth it.

Excellent learning tool for players, coaches, and football fans

These football training flashcards are incredibly helpful and well put together. The cards break down plays, coverages, and terminology in a way that’s easy to understand and remember, making them great for beginners as well as more experienced players and fans. The format is convenient for quick study sessions, and the information is organized clearly without feeling overwhelming. It’s a great resource for learning football strategy, improving football IQ, or even reviewing concepts before practices or games. The quality of the cards is also excellent, with durable materials and clean, easy-to-read layouts. Overall, this is a fantastic educational tool for anyone who loves football and wants to better understand the game. Highly recommended!

A football textbook study guide on cards

This is an amazing set of football training cards. It is a football textbook in a pocket sized deck of cards. These cards are suitable for coaches, high school players, and football moms and dads. The information is too detailed for younger players. These cards feel laminated and should be very durable. They are about an inch bigger all around than a standard deck of playing cards. So the size is perfect to carry in a pocket or bag. There are two volumes and I am very impressed with the content of both volumes. Volume one is really an in-depth lexicon of football terms and plays. Many of the cards have a “flash card” title on one side, and a long explanation and play diagram in the reverse. Some of the cards have a play diagram on the front and a long explanation of the handling and purpose of that play on the back. These are study cards to read over and over and study. These are not the standard flash cards you can flip and memorize questions and answers. These cards require reading and analytical skills and some of these cards require multiple readings to fully understand. I like that you can stick a few cards in your pocket and study them during the day. They are easy to use that way. These are expensive but these are a good value for the many concise chunks of information you get. They are very useful and helpful for the football student and would make a great gift.

Just aweosme information for coaches in an easy to use and consume design!

I have been tasked with taking over the defensive coordinator position on my team, and while I am familiar with a lot of the concepts, there are some language and details that I am fuzzy on. Along with some of my other training materials, I thought these cards would be a good solution. In terms of the cards themselves, they are made of high- quality materials that are durable and easy to manage., The size is larger than a deck of playing cards, but not much bigger than a quarter sheet of letter-sized paper. The writing and coloring are pretty high contrast, which is great for people like me that have poor vision. The font size on some of them can be a little small, but that just means I have to make sure I am wearing my glasses. For me, these not only give great information in an easy to use format, but they are easily transported as well so I don't have to navigate files on my phone. I can also use them with players in meetings, which is a huge win.The final thing I like about them, is they give me a glossary of terms that allow me to communicate more effectively with our coaches, other coaches I chat with, and consistency with my team. These have been well worth the cost, especially when compared to the cost for a consultant or some of the training services. I highly recommend these.I have also ordered Volume 2. which has additional excellent information, especially on line play. Since they are so similar, you will probably note a lot of the same language in my review of Volume 2 as well.

Getting your PhD in American Football? You'll needed these.

If you are looking to get your PhD in American Football, then these flash cards are a must. I love football and want to learn more about the technical aspects of the game and these cards are certainly technical. These are best for people who are coaching and committed players because these are highly technical. It's not for weekend warriors because these jump right in with technical jargon and schemes as if you've already covered the basics. Volume 2 is the same thing. It would be nice to start with more basic concepts for novices looking to learn the game, but perfect again for those who are already students of the game and come to it with some football acumen and IQ.The 3x5 cards are printed on durable stock paper. Fit perfectly in ones pocket or bag.Good value to learn the game of football in depth and expand your football IQ.

useful but overpriced

This product is a box of 54 flash cards that seem approximately 3" by 5", at least based on me comparing them to a photo that I think is 3" by 5". There are 2 cards that explain how to read a (football) board and these cards. There are 29 cards that have a term on the front to define (such as "Progression") and a definition on the back plus possibly a little extra information about the term. Finally, there are 23 terms with diagrams on the front of coverages such as "Cover 3 Buzz Weak" and the coverage names on the back plus a significant amount of additional information about the coverage, divided into 3 sections (how to identify the coverage, weaknesses of the coverage, and additional details). The material quality of the cards is very good, and the information in the cards is useful and well-written or well-diagrammed. The ideas about what the players are supposed to do with the information are pretty clear. The only thing I really don't like about the product is the value for the money, but if viewing this without considering the price, this is a very good product.

Disappointed in these.

I'm a mom of a varsity HS football player and a D1 MS football player. I've been desperate to understand this game. As a football novice, these are completely overwhelming. They're not made for a varsity player or a D1 MS player either, because my football enthusiasts both looked at them and immediately said, "No thank you." My grad school days taught me to power through learning even when it's not fun, so that's where I'm at. They're not much bigger than a standard deck of cards, and they don't appear to have much durability. There's frankly just not much versatility; they're confusing cards that miss the mark. And they're significantly over priced. What separates these cards from the Vol 2 cards? These look more basic and all-encompassing about the game, and the Vol 2 cards appear to be focused on O-line and D-line. My varsity player, who is solely focusing on D-line this year, gave these a hard pass. They're just not appealing. Further, these are riddled with basic careless editing. How hard is it to click "Ctrl + A" and fix the font and sizing before sending these to the printer? Especially for the price. I'm afraid these are a pass.

Good Resource

Detailed cards and a great supplemental tool to get a grasp of the basics. Many of them are more like reference cards, as opposed to flash cards, but there is still a lot of good information to help understand terms, coverages, and some coverage variations. One nitpick I have is that there are no yard line markers on some the diagrams while they are on others. If you can square your team/system nomenclature with what is here (ex. They call Cover 2 Man “Cover 2 Skill” instead of “2 Man” or “Cover 5”) and maybe write in the code words you use, this can be a helpful resource

As a college football mom, I thought I had a pretty good understanding of the game and the different positions. These flash cards took my knowledge far beyond the basics. They helped me understand not just what was happening on the field, but why.

Now I get to share that experience with my grandsons. We practice together, learn together, and have so much fun testing each other. It's become a special way for us to spend time together while growing our football IQ.

Whether you're a football parent, grandparent, or a fan who wants to understand the game on a deeper level, these flash cards are an incredible resource. I only wish I'd had them years ago!

Hi there! We're thrilled to hear how much you've enjoyed the flash cards and how they’ve enhanced your football knowledge. It's wonderful that they’ve become a special way for you and your grandsons to connect. Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

Provides an Easy-to-Study Way of Furthering Your Football Knowledge

I think of football as a combination chess match and war ballet; this set of flashcards provides a sturdy, easy-to-use guide to the moves and dance steps, eventually yielding a greater appreciation of the intricacies of the game and the difficulties involved in playing it as well. There are definitions of terms; glimpses inside the pre- and post-snap thought and vision processes of the quarterback; and precise explanations of a decent variety of coverages, including their advantages and exploitable weaknesses. Some of the defenses seem complicated and confusing at first, but repetition clarifies; and this is easier to accomplish with flashcards than repeatedly reading paragraphs in a book (at least for me). It's advisable to also get Volume 2 of these cards in order to comprehend everything easily (the terms "alley player" and "cloud" are defined in Vol. 2 and used but not really explained in this set, for instance).Admittedly pricey, but I'm glad I indulged.

Coach Doug Brady has put out an amazing product for all QB's, those just starting out as well as those more experienced. For those just getting started, if you learn what's inside these three volumes of cards you'll be light years ahead of your competition. I've seen it with my own son's understanding of all things playing the QB position and football in general.

Volume 1 - helped him build out his understanding of terms and coverages. Both from the foundational (what is Cover 0, Cover 1, etc. coverage) to extremely nuanced concepts getting deep into coverages, alignments, etc.

Volume 2 - I'll be honest, my son struggles the most with this volume, and I mean that in a good way. This volume delves deep into topics that he had barely thought about before - blocking schemes, protection calls (not yet big things for a QB who only played 7th and 8th grade Pop Warner, but will be invaluable as he gets older), all the way through OL play. Although these might not be the first topics that come to mind when one thinks of what's needed for great QB play, as a QB continues to advance, improve, and take on more responsibility, these will be important to a QBs understanding.

Volume 3 - this volume takes QB understanding to the next level. For a young QB, it was so important to learn the importance of good footwork, understanding both pre and post snap reads, and how those all come together.

Taking a quick step back, I feel that there's often too much put on "how well does the QB throw the ball" when some of the greatest QBs in NFL history were great not bc they could throw the ball 80yds (many couldn't) but bc they won the game before the ball was even snapped. I'd rather no one else read these cards, haha, that's how good they are and how much a leg up they'll give you as a QB, but Coach Brady and these cards have made a massive difference to my son's development and they deserve to be read by anyone serious about playing QB.

Hi Gabriel, thank you so much for sharing such a detailed and heartfelt review! We're thrilled to hear that the volumes are making such a positive impact on your son's football journey. Your support means a lot, and we're glad these resources are helping young quarterbacks excel. Thanks again for your kind words!

Great resource for young QB’s looking to learn about opposing defenses! Definitely recommend!

Hi Chris, thank you for your positive feedback! We're thrilled to hear that Volume 1 is a helpful resource for young QBs. We appreciate your recommendation! Check out our online community! Wilson would benefit from watching the videos and taking the quizzes!

Love it, love it, love it. I have all 3 volumes now and they are a big help to improving and continuing education about American Football. If they make other volumes down the road I will purchase them as well.
